The BIG Weekend!

This is my FAVORITE weekend of the whole year! It is the Haddam Neck Fair! I so look forward to this, the picture is of last year with my and Bugaboo Girl who won cutest baby. Can't enter her in anything this year but I usually enter vegetables, canned goods and knitting projects. This pretty much pays for one day of entry a year. I often go for three of the four days, Friday night being the big one which is the Amatuer Truck Pulls, oh yea, good fun!

Got Lobstah?

I thought I would start out with the obvious, what we all think of Maine. This one was a church fundraising dinner at Machais Blueberry Festival on our way up to Grand Lake Stream.

It is a long way down east to get there so we made a two day excursion stopping at LL Bean on day one than Ellsworth near Bar Harbor on day two. Oh how I love to look at the boats in the harbor! More to come, stay tuned........

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X

I was given a chance to do this book review of the Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson. He is a best selling author and this book is the first of a series to promote Young adults to take time to read. This book certainly makes it easy to do so since it is a quick read and keeps you wanting more. Don't just assume this book is only for young adults as I enjoyed it just as much and found myself ready for the next one in the series.

Daniel is a young boy whose parents were murdered at the age of three. He knew he was no ordinary young boy but had special powers. What he had for help was "The List", his powers and special friends. All needed to save Earth from being taken over and destroyed.

While hunting down aliens, he not only learns more about his special powers but also about his weakness. Letting his guard down and becoming vulnerable leads him on an adventure that turns the table on his whole life!

I found myself looking forward to my time reading this book, enjoying the characters and easily wanting to read the next book in the series. Patterson does a very good job describing the looks of the characters, and keeping it clean for all ages. I did not expect myself to enjoy this book as much as I did, assuming it was more geared toward young adults. It is definitely a good read for young adults and beyond who are into action, science fiction and mystery all in one!

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X is available at Amazon.com to purchase.

Champagne Food Friday

Very exciting! As of this week I am introducing Champagne Food Friday! As you know, you can drink champagne with just about anything. This is why I will be posting a recipe on Fridays of something I have made an requested by email or comments! It also gives a focus for the end of the week on something you can either try over the weekend or next week. Feel free to let me know what you would like to see, I love feedback!
In honor of my trip to Maine last week, and all of the blueberries I have picked this season, I am posting a Blueberry Pancake Muffin. This reminds me of our blueberry pancakes we had in Grand Lake Stream, Maine at the Leen's Lodge. So I had to make a recipe to match and this is what I came up with!

1 1/2 sticks of butter room temperature
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of pure maple syrup
3 eggs
1 1/2 TSP vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup milk
2 1/2 cups flour
2 TSP baking powder
1/2 TSP baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 pint of blueberries, washed and stems removed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream together butter, sugar and maple syrup on high for about 5 minutes until fluffy. Beat in one egg at a time, scraping in between. Add vanilla, sour cream, and milk and blend.

In a separate bowl, add all of the dry ingredients together. Add the dry ingredients in small intervals to the wet in the mixer until fully mixed, scraping in between. Fold in the blueberries. Fill muffin tins, sprinkle with a little sugar on top. Bake for 35 minutes until golden brown on top.

Make sure to use paper liners in the muffin tin, always easier than spraying. I also use an ice cream scooper to fill the cups. This makes gives equal portions and easy to put in the muffin cup!

What Were You Doing When?

Shannon from It's a Mad Mad Squirrel's World has tagged me, and made a very good point. Where would I be without bloggers like Shannon stopping by.

Princess Diana’s death - 31 August 1997

I cannot remember to tell you the truth.

Attack on the twin towers - 11 September 2001

This I absolutely remember. I was home working, saw it on TV breaking news, called my mom immediately to find out where my father was since he flew a lot for work, was not at any airport impacted. And my husband was suppose to be on a flight to Arkansas that day, never went.

Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster January 28, 1986

I was over a friends house, actually skipping a class to watch the space shuttle go up, could not believe it.

Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster February 1, 2003

I was at work, did not hear about it until on I-84 driving home.

The Oklahoma City Bombing April 19, 1995

I was working in retail at the time and did not get out until late, I had heard it when I was in the car driving home. It is amazing how you are secluded from what happens in the world at a mall!

Bugaboo Book Review - Miss Spider's Tea Party

This week we are reviewing Miss Spider's Tea Party: The Counting Book by David Kirk. I like the front cover of the book with all of the bees buzzing around Miss Spider!

This is a counting book and right now I am having fun counting as mommy and I walk up the stairs. Two and five are my favorite numbers right now. Miss Spider is a nice bug that wants to have other bugs over for tea and no one seems to want to stay. All of the bugs are scared of Miss Spider just because she is a spider! I like seeing all of the different bugs that Miss Spider tries to offer tea and cake to, bees are especially my favorite because they "buzz".
Miss Spider starts to cry when no one will stay when she sees a moth who needs help. Wow, what a lucky moth! She dries his wings, gives him cake and tea and sends him off with an extra piece of cake! Did I mention that I love cake and ask for it every day? Mommy does not seem to have it for me all of the time but sometimes fro breakfast I have it, she calls it a pancake.
I don't want to give the ending away but Miss Spider is surprised and so am I! Mommy says never judge a book by its cover and don't assume anything!

I am sure I am because I certainly forgot a few things when we went on vacation! I am also having posting problems, auto post already posted my book review for tomorrow, oh well. Tackle It Tuesday

I could not bare to show you ALL of the extreme amounts of laundry I have to do from being away in Maine for the last week! It is embarrassing and will be a big undertaking, even the sheep stuffed animal(Lambchop) needs a soaking! At least I have four days of good weather coming so it can be hung on the line instead of using the dryer. That is one thing I miss about winter, not being able to hand clothes on the line and having to use a dryer, sucking up electricity. I am sure this will take me at least two days of washing, drying, folding and putting away. ACK! The pains of coming home from vacation.....oh I miss Grand Lake Stream already!

Sponsored by 5 Minutes for Mom, stop by and see other tackles taking place today! I am sure I am not the only one doing laundry!

Has this happened to you?

This was a first for me, and was a little annoyed, disturbed and will NEVER go back there again. I guess I never noticed it before and probably because I am a new parent.

My husband and I were on vacation last week in Maine. We took our time going up to Grand Lake Stream which is a 9 hour drive from where we live by stopping in Freeport for a night and then Ellsworth(Bar Harbor was booked and way out of budget!). On the way to Ellsworth we stopped for lunch since it was around 1pm and Bugaboo Girl was not only hungry but ready to get out of the car. We have passed by the restaurant every year, always busy, great view and looked to be rated as a not bad place to stop. We walk in and it is busy, but both areas of the restaurant had many seats open, with water view available. The Hostess asks me if I need a high chair, of course for a 2 year old that would be appropriate and easier. Not a big deal. Bugaboo Girl made ONE small fuss, she is hungry so completely understandable. The Hostess than looks at her and looks in the main dining area and turns around and puts us in the corner, NO ONE ELSE AROUND US, no water view and the high chair is at least from the 1970's, maybe older, the vinyl seat with the metal legs and trays! You have to understand, my daughter I consider to be extremely good going out to eat. My husband, well he was not happy at all and needless to say that also made the meal not so good, which it was not! Never again. Want to know where? Drop me an email.

My Sunflowers Are Unhappy

This is all of the same sunflower seedlings, cannot figure out why it looks like a frown face, being tall in the center and short on the sides! I have no shaded areas near the sunflowers and it gets full sun all day. Any ideas? No blooming heads yet, still a little small so I am guessing about two more weeks.
