I got a phone call on the way to Bugaboo Girl's swim class this morning that the orange kitten was adopted. Good for the kitty, not so good for me. It was a female, I did not know that female orange cats are extremely rare, 1 in a 1000! Who knew! Anyway, she has two siblings available, 8 weeks old but I think I have a another kitten I am going to go for tomorrow. It seems to be calling out to me more and more, a sign. I went to my grandmother's for lunch yesterday with Bugaboo Girl, she lives in as assisted living area near me. One of the women who works there and lives in town overheard me about the cat adoption ordeal and told me she had a 14 week old female kitten she was looking for someone to adopt, the last of a litter. It is a Maine Coon cat. I really think it is a sign and I am going to see her Saturday. Wish me luck!
Do you know what a Tea Towel is? It is also known as a dish towel and according to Wikipedia, it is a cloth which is used to dry dishes after they have been washed. In 18th century England, a tea towel was a special linen drying cloth used by the mistress of the house to dry her precious and expensive china tea things. Servants were not trusted with such a delicate job due to they were considered to be clumsy or maybe even possibilities of pocketing the merchandise for themselves!

In case you missed the first part of the story, you can read it here. I wanted to post what happened, finally sat down to write it today.
I called the shelter at 9:30am on Monday, which they were open at 9am. No one answered and got a automatic message for leaving a voicemail. I left my name, phone number, the cat description along with the actual number they gave me, the info I filled out on the paperwork and to call me back. Remember, they were supposed to call my town tax assessors office to confirm I was a home owner, the whole reason I was not able to take the kitten home in the first place.
I went to my mom's for the day and about 1:30pm, I decided to call the shelter again to follow up(hmmmmm something they seem to need a lesson on). The person who answered the phone told me that they never got the message, no paperwork and also no notice to call on confirming my home. AND they adopted the kitten a couple of minutes ago!!!!!! So what would you do in this situation? I told her that I wanted to complain about her process, and since she was on the phone, she said I could complain to her. My points were....
- Poor follow up
- Just because a person owns a home does not make them a better cat owner
- Why would you do this process on a Saturday if you know you cannot confirm the info with a town
- Who carries around a mortgage statement or deed with them to prove this?
- Very upsetting how this was handled
And this is what she had to say to me. "We will be getting more kittens in next week!". You're not getting the point are you.......I gave up and said that I will go somewhere else to adopt, never at your shelter who does not really care about the pairing of a pet with an owner.
So here I am looking for another kitten. I am going on petfinder today to look in my area.
onangelwings who stated "I love little girls in tutus. My daughter pointed to the Chocolate in the sky and the Paris. They are truly beautiful."

When does a hobby become a job? It only becomes a job if you are not enjoying doing it. Sherrie Graham who runs Birch Bark Soap has made her hobby into a passion.
Birch Bark Soap is made from no animal fats, preservatives, synthetic colourings, parabens, pthalates, or sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates. I am fascinated with her combinations of scents such as Almond Biscotti Bath Bar, Sweet Birch Bath Bar and Peppermint Poppyseed Bath Bar. Sherrie even carries an Fragrance Free Baby Soap that is super gentle, mild and perfect for also sensitive skin! My favorite would have to be the Cafe Mocha Kitchen Soap made with coffee. I learned a new kitchen tip in that coffee helps in removing odors, such as garlic or fish, from the hands. Exfoliation from the coffee grounds will also leave your hands smooth and soft. That won me over since my hands are either in the garden or in dish water!
Birch Bark Soap has offered up one winner the choice one soap scent. See rules below.

It happens every so many years. We have a gray water well and our septic is separate. The gray water well gets clogged up from this.
This is what happens right in my walkway going into my back door which in the winter time is not a good thing having a small skating rink here.
And this is what I am going to start with to try and fix this issue. If it does not work, we have to rent a very large plumbers snake! Let's hope this works, keep your fingers crossed for me!

I love pottery. I can attribute this to my mother. Ever since I was a little girl, I would go to antique shows with her while she was working her antique business. She started me collecting Fiesta by giving me pieces for holiday gifts such as a bowl with jellybeans for Easter or green plates for Christmas. Every once in a while I will find a different piece of pottery, something to use for social gatherings. I only have a few but they are special. DAH Ceramics has to me some special pieces that I would add to my collection.
If you know Fiesta, the appeal is not only the color but it is simple in design. This is what I love about DAH Ceramics. Dana has it down to what exactly I like which is she works with functionality and sculpture to make simple forms. I love this serving bowl with the contrast of the black and the green textured interior. This would be wonderful for the center of the table, fruit in the summer and gourds in the fall. As a serving piece, how about mashed sweet potatoes in it? I just love the contrast of color, it draws interest.
DAH Ceramics has offered up one random winner your choice of any piece under $25! See rules below.
1. Stop by DAH Ceramics and look at her wonderful pieces. Post on this post which piece you would like to win.

If you read my blog, you know that I lost my cat Mr. Martini, named after It's a Wonderful Life, about a month ago. For the past week I have been calling my local vet to see if they have gotten in any kittens......no such luck.
So here it is Saturday morning, Bugaboo and I drop of my husband at the local tractor auction while we are off to Walmart killing a little time and buying a new coffee grinder which broke that morning. We pull in and what do I see but a large van parked in front of Walmart with a very big cat statue next to it. I thought that this was a sign, we walked over to see who was the adoption van which it was a local shelter signing up for adoption of dogs and cats. Yea! This was my day! Bugaboo Girl and I waited in line to go in, there were about 9 cats and 4 kittens. One caught our eye, a 14 month tiger stripe male, took him out, got to hold him, Bugaboo Girl was already loving him. Right there I was ready to adopt.
We filled out the application, even was honest on the percentage of time inside and outside for the cat. If you have ever done this before, many shelters will NOT let you take a cat home if it is not 100% inside which I TOTALLY disagree with. But I was honest, could have put 100% but did not. So I am led over to the officer who reviews the application and she says to me "I need proof you own your home." I happen to have my electric bill on me, checkbook, licence, that was about it. But evidently that is not enough. She then looks at my application and calls her office to get my town's tax assessors phone number. Number one, it is a Saturday, no town is open and number two, she sis not even read my application because she was asking for a completely different town! She then realizes, the town office e is not open and asks me for a mortgage statement, which I do not have let alone who carries it with them! It was like they did not believe me. May I remind you, this is to adopt a kitten! Now I am starting to get upset and Bugaboo Girl is hungry and not as patient anymore. The officer then asks me if I have a copy of my deed! What? Who carries that document around in their handbag! But yet, people who rent only had to provide their landlords info for a call! What is wrong with this picture. O.k., so it is evident I am going to have to wait until Monday when they will call my tax assessors office to prove I own my home because evidently that makes me a better cat owner? But it gets better. I asked them if I would then be able to get the kitten once this is done and she said to me "IF someone else comes today qualified, they will be able to take him home!!! What!? I am in front of Walmart, welling up and ready to cry any minute. One of the shelter workers comes over to me and proceeds to tell me that this cat was on the news the day before for adoption and is a celebrity.......and that is suppose to make me feel better? I walked away with Bugaboo Girl, trying not to let her see me upset, but could not help it.
So Monday morning, I am calling the shelter first thing and telling them to call my assessors office at 9:30 am, then lets see what happens next! IF they still have this kitten and IF I can still have it once this process is over I will be writing a complaint letter.
