I am sure your first reaction would be "Oh that poor little bird, it is missing part of it's leg!" That was my reaction, for a split moment. Then I thought of Darwinism. Survival of the fittest. Sure this bird lost part of it's leg maybe by a bluefish, a tangled fishing line or even could have been born that way. The fact that it seemed to have adapted to this situation is what I find amazing. It was scurrying around with the same species on the beach, as they all do, eating along the waterline. I only wish that it had a tracking band around the leg so if ever seen again, it could be recorded. Good luck little sandpiper, you seem to be doing just fine.
