The Stimulus Package Debate is over

The debate is now over and the final vote is up next.

I am really disgusted how this was handled, worked upon, and the carelessness of having to push it out as soon as possible. Let the market correct itself, many economists state the same thing that this will not stimulate the economy and it is a band aid on a wound that will fester for a long time.

The Senate will vote around 5pm today.

C-Span Stimulus Package Debate

If you are home, turn on C-Span right now, they have 90 minutes of debate on the Stimulus Package, which was just given to House members about 11-12pm last night, over 1000 pages! How that can be read in that time even with a bunch of aids breaking it down is beyond me. This does not make me feel confident at all. Vote will happen most likely after this debate. LAST CALL to contact your state representatives and let them know how you feel!

It's Aloha Friday

Oh my goodness it is Friday. I won't bother posting a question about Valentine's Day, seems to be the topic about right now. And let's just stay away from politics, which leads me to food. After all, it is Champagne Food Friday at my blog. My parents are in Hawaii for their yearly trip so the question will be related. Here we go!

Have you ever eaten a Hawaiian pineapple?

They do have a completely different taste from Costa Rica version . I lived there for five years and ate a lot of pineapple. They do not grow as much out there as they use to, land issue of course.

Champagne Food Friday-Cupcakes with an Irish Flare

A week ago I posted about Smitten Kitchen having a recipe for Chocolate Whiskey and Beer cupcakes, the match to the Irish Car Bomb drink. If you haven't had an Irish Car Bomb, find a pub who serves it and try one out but be fore warned, they hit you like a bomb and you cannot drink too many! I just had to try out the recipe, and had a great opportunity to share them with friends of ours who happen to be Irish and have had many Irish Car Bomb drinks.

I followed the recipe with a few exceptions where I tweaked it slightly. One are was the ganache filling, I heated the cream as stated and poured it over the chocolate. To add a little more fluffy appeal to the filling, I added some cold cream also and whipped it together for about 3 minutes on high. It came out wonderful and also easy to pipe in to each cupcake.

As for hallowing out the cupcakes, they suggest an apple corer, a 1" cookie round cutter. I did not have either but I had a melon baller which I have to say was much better, I was able to core out more of the cupcake to get more filling inside. I would also suggest an zip lock bag to fill the cupcakes with, super easy this way. I also used some of the remnants from the coring and put them back on top of the cupcake.

For the frosting, definitely go by the directions with slowly adding a teaspoon of powdered sugar at a time, makes a difference and I only needed about a little over two cups of powdered sugar instead of three to four.

I know they were good when the following comments were given.

"This was the best dessert you have made!"

"Oh my goodness these are so good!"

And the fact my husband ate two, that is a testimony there, he is pretty picky on my desserts.

This would be great for St. Patrick's Day, put a few green sprinkles on top and call it a day, without having to worry about a designated driver!

Passionate Blogger Award

I was given an award from my blog bud over at Katydid and Kid, the Passionate Blogger Award. In reading her listing of five, I see we have more in common than realized! I won't duplicate the Indian Food listed, but I absolutely LOVE it! You would think Champagne would be on the list, but it does not make my top five.
So here goes with the rules of this award.

1. Put the logo in your blog
2. Write five things you are passionate about apart from blogging
3. Tag 5 people on your lists and let them know you tagged them.

Five things I am passionate about:
1. Family, love to be around them, love to have everyone together!
2. New York Yankees, love them, miss it so much during the winter, I go into withdrawal.
3. Knitting, always trying new things and can be a little crazy about it. (As you can see with the felting)
4. Maine, love all of it, love to vacation there, would move there in a heartbeat!
5. Baking, so much fun and love to try new ideas. Could you tell by my cupcake entry today?

I know I could easily add another 5, but I am going to stick to this rule. Now let me tag a few others, all unique and a shared interest. Check them out!

And there you have it! Questions? Comments? Feel free to contact me.

Electrolux gives Cupcakes for a Cause

If you have not noticed, Valentine's Day is upon us and this seems to be the time for sweets for your sweet. How about receiving something super sweet without the calories? This involves one of my favorite sweet treat, cupcakes!

Electrolux has teamed up with one of America's favorite moms, Kelly Ripa, to spread a little love via a charitable social media campaign. At http://kelly-confidential.com/, you can create and send a unique virtual cupcake to friends and family during February. For every cupcake sent, Electrolux will donate $1 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) as part of their half million dollar commitment to help support this worthy cause. Kelly Ripa has also designed a custom "Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve" T-shirt, the perfect Valentine's gift for friends and family, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting OCRF (also available on electroluxappliances.com).

To add a little more excitement to this event, everyone who logs on and sends a cupcake will be entered for a chance to win the newest front-load Washer & Dryer (an estimated $3,600 value) from Electrolux, the appliance brand used throughout fine homes in Europe for 80 years. Wow, send a cupcake, a donation is made and you get entered for a chance to win a new washer & dryer, what a cool way to celebrate Valentine's Day!

This review of Electrolux products and http://kelly-confidential.com/ blog was written for Mom Central.

Domino in the "Big House"

We have two Little People Houses, Bugaboo Girl has named them the Guest House and the Big House. You might be wondering where these names came from, her grandparents house seem to reflect these ideas.
Bugaboo Girl does not particularly like when Domino jams herself into the Little People houses. She will often tell the cat "Keeeia Domino noooooooooooo....get out of the big house!" Kia being her nickname for kitty. Such a sassy kitty!

9. “Joe Torre here—thanks for helping book sales”
8. “Could you find a steroid that keeps you from choking in the playoffs?”
7. “Are you worried this will taint all the championships you didn’t win?”

5. “Michael Phelps here. Got any snacks?”
4. “This is Sammy Sosa. Just pretend you don’t speak English”
3. “Michael Phelps again. Did I call you or did you call me?”
2. “Hey, it’s Rod Blagojevich—I’ll say you’re innocent, if you say I am”

A-Rod admits usage

This does not surprise me at all. A-Rod admitting to use of illegal steroids during his time in Texas. What does surprise me he stated he has been completely clean during his time as a New York Yankee. How can we believe this after not being truthful on his interview over a year ago stating he never took steroids and had no pressure to do so? It may be me but he just does not sound sincere at all in the interview. And he got caught in the pressure? I cannot imagine the pressure is bigger in Texas than in NY?

And then there is the statement from the New York Yankees.

“We strongly believe there is no place in baseball for performance enhancing drugs of any type, and we support the efforts of the Commissioner to continually improve the testing process.
“We urged Alex to be completely open, honest and forthcoming in addressing his use of performance enhancing drugs. We take him at his word that he was. Although we are disappointed in the mistake he spoke to today, we realize that Alex—like all of us—is a human being not immune to fault.
“We speak often about the members of this organization being part of a family, and that is never more true than in times of adversity. Alex took a big step by admitting his mistake, and while there is no condoning the use of performance enhancing drugs, we respect his decision to take accountability for his actions. We support Alex, and we will do everything we can to help him deal with this challenge and prepare for the upcoming season.”

To me, this is just as disappointing of a statement. Yes we are all human and make mistakes, but he had many chances to redeem himself. Nothing in his contract about usage? No fines, no suspension? They did not test him before he became a Yankee? Just another politically correct statement issued by the office.

I admit he is not my favorite player on the NY Yankees, this does not help. When I go to my first game of the season in the new stadium, I will not boo him, but I will not praise him either. He has to live with his decision and as he well knows, Yankee fans are not easy on players.

Morning Routine

We all have one, you get up in the morning and do the same routine every day, with exception for the weekend. I am sure mine is no different from many others.

  • Get up, let the dog down stairs where the cat is waiting for us and they immediately start to chase each other. Oh if I only had that energy to start off with
  • The dog gets fed otherwise she is under my foot whining
  • Make the coffee
  • The cat gets fed otherwise she is tormenting the dog while she is eating her food and there could be an early morning scuffle
  • The litter box is cleaned out
  • The birds get fed, yup I fill the feeders.
  • I make lunch for my husband.
  • Make breakfast for my husband.
  • Take the dog out and warm up the car.
  • Bugaboo Girl gets up usually by now and I feed her breakfast
  • I then am able to sit down and have my brief breakfast

Everyone gets fed before me, even the birds. Sounds familiar?

Monday Knits

I have a new favorite handbag I made this past week. It is a small clutch that is 11" wide and 6" height. This was the test one, now I will experiment with colors and also change it to be inside out on the purl side for a more bumpy look! I like putting the pins on them, kind of my signature. It gives you the option to change it to what you are wearing or how you feel on that day. The pin I chose for this one was my Grandmothers pin, unique with the black and green stones.
