Island time

My husband and I lived on Maui for years, what we considered to be a pretty small island. This past weekend we visiting Block Island, RI to go to our niece's baptism at the Labyrinth. You can take the ferry from either Point Judith or New London, we chose Point Judith for the cost which was more than half the price of New London. The beaches on Block Island are beautiful and the scenery is very calming. What is not calm is all of the bikes, mopeds and way too many cars they allow on the island. Block Island is MUCH smaller than Maui, but the mentality is about the same. The one exception of Block Island is that it is a haven for people who sail with Block Island Race Week a time that you want to avoid being there! A very nice place to visit, way to small to live on!

BIG boat coming, out of the way......

This sailboat pulled in to Block Island on Saturday morning, catching the eye of everyone in the harbor. You might not think it looks like a big sail boat, just compare it to the tiny boats right behind it! Owner was unknown but seemed to be located from the Grand Cayman, hmmmm.......

Beach days

Went to my home town beach with my mother and my daughter on a beautiful sunny day. I had forgotten how much I like this small beach until sitting and watching my daughter take it all in!

Stop and smell the flowers

My hydrangeas are the gem of the yard. They started to bloom about two weeks ago and last into August. My daughter loves them and has to stop and take a sniff.

Mystery in the bird box

The back corral has a couple of bird boxes that are usually occupied by blue birds. This year I had notice some swallows popping in and out a couple of weeks ago, after the blue birds had nested and gone. Any bird that feasts on insects such as mosquito's can make its home there as far as I am concerned! I had noticed one of the boxes had little activity, so I opened it to check on it, did not see a bird or eggs, pulled the nest out to find a bird sitting on the nest, not moving. It looks like it had died on the nest very recently, from what I do not know. Mystery of the swallow nest......

Rock wall update

It has been about a month since I started this project and I am done with building the side walls. Now I have to start filling in the dirt and build the seat on the open end. I am anticipating being done by the end of next week to plant.
