Crabby?

Delaware? Maryland? Nope.....it's Connecticut and my father-in-law seemed to have hit the jackpot crabbing for blue crabs the other day. These guys are feisty, giving them the true definition of being crabby! Of course, they did not do much of that once on the dinner plate!

Big Blue

In the dusk of the evening, this Great Blue Heron is just sitting and waiting for it's meal to swim by. In flight, these birds look like monsters and have a load croaking like call. My boat was going too fast to get a good shot of it and sunset cloudy conditions did not help. There are so many of these birds around the Connecticut River, I know that I will have another opportunity.

Field of Dreams

My husband celebrated his 40th B'Day last month and I was at a loss on what to get him. Then I caught a commercial in between Yankee games that select NY Home Depots were starting to sell the grass seed used at Yankee Stadium. I was on it! I asked my brother-in-law to stop at his nearest Home Depot in Brooklyn and grab a bag. It was around $25, but no different cost than a good grass seed. It was a big hit, now he can plant his own field of dreams.....

Opera House on the River

An amazing place right on the Connecticut River! The Goodspeed Opera House is where Annie started off before making it big on Broadway. I just love the building in it's setting. The bridge is a swing bridge, which can be a pain in the summer time with the large boats needing it open. Traffic is not pretty during a show time!

Birds and Beer

Every time I see a Belted Kingfisher, I think of my trip to India. You might think that is a little strange, especially since I relate it to beer. Kingfisher was the beer they sold there and I was often asked to go out and pick up a six pack for my husband and brother-in-law.....they were a little weary at times to leave the apartment and venture out. Anyway, I love these birds, they are so load and fun to see hovering over the water fishing.

I am the grass.....be the grass.....

Cattle Egrets are very stealth, as you can see here. Do you think they could be saying to them selves "I look like grass....I am grass...no one sees me!" Cattle Egrets are often found around and on top of cattle, picking bugs off of them.
