Sowing the seeds of good health

The warm weather has certainly inspired me to get out and garden, clear the flower beds and start our vegetable garden. I know we have a very big chance of getting another frost and we often do not plant until the second week of May. I could not resist the chance to start some seeds that had a better chance of surviving.
My daughter has been inspired even more this year to be involved in the gardening. She received some carrot seeds from a birthday party and was excited to plant them. If it gets her to eat more carrots, that would be great! If I can get her to weed around them as they grow, that would be a big deal also. While I planted carrots, radishes and lettuce, she painted a picture of the view of the garden and her favorite neighbor's home. We have some old picture signs of vegetables you can stick in the ground as markers. I had her pick out the pictures of the veggies we planted and she marked the rows.
One of her favorite gardens is the strawberry patch in the rock garden. Her biggest fear is the turkeys eating her strawberries! Her solution to me was putting the netting we use for the blueberry bushes over the strawberries, good idea! I am hoping for a good crop this year.
In the end, all of the gardening can only promote good health with pesticide free fruits and vegetables, and the satisfaction of growing it your self. Not to mention a little exercise squatting up and down weeding all of the gardens!
