"I Don't Want to Miss" Contest

Getting sick can put a kink in a child's daily schedule. Between school work and extra curricular activities, dealing with a cold can put them all to a halt! This year we have the added curve ball of not only the flu but the H1N1 to worry about.
To help spread the word about flu prevention, former American Idol finalist Danny Gokey has paired up with The Clorox Company to launch I Don't Want to Miss…, a national campaign designed to get teens and their teachers involved in flu prevention.

The program is now in its second year and features a contest that invites school musical groups, like glee clubs, show choirs, etc. to develop a video performance of a song written by Berklee College of Music student Will Wells on what they don't want to miss out on if they were home sick and why prevention is important. The winning school will win a music class led by former American Idol finalist Danny Gokey!

For each entry submitted, The Clorox Company will donate $100 (up to $10,000) to the Sophia's Heart Foundation, a charity founded by Gokey in honor of his late wife, Sophia, and dedicated to helping children achieve academic success via musical training and restoring musical dreams in children.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that children and teens over 6 months and up to age 18 get flu vaccinations. In addition to vaccination, the most important step in flu prevention, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and washing hands often play an important role in prevention. These health habits are what we need to press upon or children. I know my daughter would not want to miss out on her swim classes and the Valentine's Day Party she is having at her school. Being sick and staying home is certainly not as fun as these activities!

Visit www.Facebook.com/Clorox to get more information about this challenge. For the first 100 groups to submit, the teacher will receive a wellness care package from The Clorox Company.

The ground shook

If you had watched the news whether it is your local or national, you probably saw the gas explosion which occurred Sunday in Middletown, Connecticut. The site is about 7 miles from our home and the bizarre thing was I did not think anything of it. We were at the first day opening of the long awaited grocery store in town, The Country Market. We were actually in our car, a VW diesel jetta which is load anyway. I heard something but thought nothing of it since we were right next to the river and bridge, until we went into the store and was asked if we heard the blast like noise.
After the grocery store we went to Gillette Castle for a short walk and went home. It was when I turned on the TV where they were reporting a gas explosion. A tragic accident and close to home. Makes me think what could have happened if we still had the nuclear power plant running right across the river from us and possibilities of an incident.
If you missed it, here is the news link.

How to loose 10 pounds.....

Domino was complaining to me that she felt she was too big. About a week ago she decided to spend the day outside during a rain storm. When I let her in, she looked like she lost 10 pounds....of fur! She doesn't look happy! Vanity in a kitty...how funny.

All together now

I counted 34 turkeys in this flock! Either it was a good breeding season, a party going on close by or we just need to extend the turkey hunting season!
