Government spending

When it comes to spending money, the government seems to know how to spend it quicker and more of it than a shop-o-holic!  This goes for Federal, State, and local...they are no different!  I of course work at the local level and all of the cliches we laugh about and question when it comes to what government employees spend money on seem to be true!  I have an example.
Our government runs on a fiscal year.  We inform all of the departments a few weeks before the end of this year that any purchase orders left pertaining to that year must be in by a certain date and also let them know what is left in their budget.  What do you think happens next?  All of the sudden the financial department is swamped with purchase orders and everyone is trying to spend what they have left in their budget line items!  Heaven forbid we do not spend that money and use it for the next year or rainy day fund!  This is where the frivolous spending happens, all to justify keeping the budget they have set.
One department, not to be named, started off after receiving the purchase order cut off date to request payment of a pair of magnifying glasses(the kind you wear) to be used on off site work.  o.k., how did you do your job for the past 20 years without them!  Then a verbal request came up for a larger computer screen because theirs were smaller than everyone else!  This was not true as the person making the request measured the screen from top to bottom and everyone has the same size throughout the building!  They have been notorious for spending monies just to spend it.  I found an example of pens ordered that were $30 each because the employee "liked these pens", the explanation given!  I like lobster but you do not see me buying it to have for lunch every day!  This spending seems to have spilled into the new year.  The department head has lost their cell phone while mowing the lawn and wants a new phone.  the best part of this is that the phones do not come out of their department budget but out of the Main building budget!  This person has lost the phone twice already and has gone over the phone contract for replacement phones.  So when offered a phone that was the former Selectman's phone, the response was not pretty.  Evidently a new phone was expected and we were told that the replacement phone had bad reception.  Since when does phone reception involve the phone and not where the towers are located for service!  The list goes on and on.
I find myself going in to work, encountering at least one incident a day and it always amazes me when it happens.  Trying to stop these incidents is another story for another day.

UnderWAY and Smart for Life

Multitasking is what I feel often is the culprit for change in weight.  My schedule is full every day whether it is house chores, work, community involvement or just driving my daughter to what ever activity she has.  My time gets stretched and often eating on the go is not the best way.  This also limits the amount of exercise I have, often finding myself trying hard to fit in a walk.  Hence I often find myself tossing my weight loss goals out the window.  UnderWAY and Smart for Life have come up with some products to help meet weight loss goals.

UnderWAY supplement drinks not only quench your thirst but also suppresses your appetite making you feel full longer.  The drink takes longer to absorb in your stomach and slows absorption of what is already there.    What's more, its unique ingredients stimulate your stomach, telling your brain you've consumed more calories that you really have which, with underWAY, is almost zero! It contains no preservatives, sodium or caffeine, with only 10 calories and 2 grams of carbs per 8 oz. serving. HeroFiber, a soluble dietary fiber, helps maintain normal levels of cholesterol, glucose and insulin that are already in the normal range. As we all know, taste is important otherwise we will not drink it and continue with the program.  I tried the Grape and the Acaci-Pomegranate drinks and both flavors were refreshing and did not have that sweet after taste that you often get with supplement drinks.  My favorite was the Acaci-Pomegranate as it was light, and a nice flavor.  I was surprised how it did make me feel full for a long time.
Smart for Life has also developed products to help the weight loss goals.  The Smart for Life products are all natural, 60% organic products offering great snacking on-the-go. The products contain the necessary nutrients like Omega-3 fatty acids and HeroFiber, with zero trans fat and making you feel fuller, quicker. Adopting a new 7-meals-per-day schedule featuring 6 cookies or products plus a balanced dinner allows your body to maintain steady blood sugar and glucose levels, and to burn more fat for a longer portion of the day.  I have found that eating more meals in smaller quantities does regulate my appetite and blood sugar levels, also curbing those urges to pick up something I do not need to eat like a bag of chips(my down fall)!  The variety of products that Smart for Life offers is soups, shakes, bagels, cereals, cupcakes and more.  There is a Guide for maximum results and how you can stay on track with your weight loss.  How does the product taste?  Tasty, fulfilling and I was surprised how it held me to dinner.
Combining the two products of underWAY and Smart for Life, I can have a more effective way to reach my weight goals and keep me on track to not eating bad junk food choices.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of underWAY and Smart for Life and received samples to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Domain change

Over the weekend I had a problem getting into my blog from any link I entered.  I could get to my dashboard but could not view my blog, I was blocked.  It seemed I had lost my domain name.  I had to register for it again but when I did so, it seems someone else had picked it up!  Hence every time I tried to search for it and link to it, the page went to a bar/alcohol items page with a woman posing like she was going to school!  So I decided to see if I could register for my original choice which someone had grabbed when I first started this blog and it was available!  I am now running on www.lifeislikechampagne.com which has omitted the blog name in it!  The fun things you encounter in the blog world!

Passing on the Legacy

It may have been the house that Ruth built, but George Steinbrenner made it a legacy.  With his passing yesterday, what might have been an occurrence that was foreseen, it was still a shock to many.  He was quite the business man, did have a sense of humor and was a caring person.  If you did not know about his humor, just watch Saturday Night Live in which he hosted or some of the commercials he has made with Billy Martin or the Derek Jeter Visa Commercial.  George did enjoy the spot light and realized it was a part of his life.

The stories always seem to come out after someone passes away, and with George Steinbrenner, they were being conveyed as soon as the news broke.  Many were about his compassion, whether it was a personal occurrence or how he donated so much to the community.  The stories do not surprise me, with a successful enterprise and devoted to his family, it only makes sense.  Many you did not hear about until now and some you knew.
I cried when he went out on the field for first pitch of the All Star Game in the old Yankee Stadium, how could you not if you are a fan.  It just seemed like the last time he would be there for the old stadium and maybe public appearance.  The ovation was wonderful, the players greeting him was making my eyes well up and it was what he deserved.
If you are not a Yankee fan, than most likely you have cursed his name.  And why not, he spent the most, bought out many players under other teams who were trying for the same and had the money to pretty much do what he wanted.  I can only point it out as jealousy, because if you had him as an owner, it would be a different story.  He made a sorry franchise into a billion dollar business and set the bar for the rest.
For the family, it had to have been very hard to see him ill for the past several years.  Our families deepest sympathy and he will always be remembered.

Summer Camp

My daughter started Summer camp last week for the first time.  I was a little nervous since this was a new school, new teachers and whole new environment.  Luckily she had her best buddies with her to do the same.  The week went by too quickly and she had a great time.  As you can see, this was her choice for a lunch box, there were no worries of duplication of lunch boxes there!
